Burkholderia cepacia is a complex, a group of 17 separate species. In particular, it has been found to be an important opportunistic pathogen, which can cause a high level of death in patients whose hospitalized immune system is suppressed.
B.cepacia complex can cause many infections, especially urinary and respiratory infections.
B.cepacia complex can stay alive for a long time in disinfectant materials used in hospitals and even reproduce.
In particular, if individuals with low immune systems use a cosmetic product or disinfectant contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia, an infection may occur.
