Mineral oil is a clear, odorless material used in cosmetic products. The mineral oil used in cosmetics and personal care products (also called “white mineral oil”) is derived from refined petroleum.
In particular, mineral oil used in hair care products is preferred because of its moisturizing and skin softening effects.
It is an ingredient used in many cosmetic products because of its ability to help reduce water loss and moisturize the skin. However, mineral oils have the risk of causing acne, especially from bacteria on the skin, due to the risk of clogging the pores.
In addition, mineral oil, which only stays in a layer on the skin, cannot contribute to the nutrition of the skin, but only ensures that the moisture in the skin is trapped.
Recently, cosmetic products that do not contain mineral oil have been replaced by products containing natural oils such as almond oil and macadamia oil.
These types of products both prevent the loss of moisture and contribute to the nutrition of the skin. Therefore, mineral oil-free analysis has become even more important recently.
